Nakkirar

Nakkirar

Nakkiradheva nayanar is one among the twelve who sung the padhinoran thirumurai (eleventh thirumurai)(1). There have been many poets by name nakkirar referred in the history. one set of people say that of whatever is present in the thirumurai attributed to nakkirar, thirumurugarruppadai was written by the nakkirar who lived in the sangam period (BCe) and the rest were written by the nakkirar who lived later (aCe). The nakkirar who lived in the sangam period was the head of the Tamil Forum patroned by the pandiya kings. There are very many songs attributed to him in the sangam literature. He had great love for lord shiva and murugan. Stories about this nakkirar, his talance and his devotion towards the lord are depicted in thiruvilaiyadal puranam(2). apart from thirumurugarruppadai there nine compositions attributed to nakkirar are present in eleventh thirumurai (kayilaipadhi kalaththipadhi andhadhi, thiruingoymalai ezubhadhu, thiruvalanychuzi mummanikkovai, thiruvezu kurrirukkai, perundheva pani, kopap pirachadham, kar ettu, porrith thirukkali venpa, thirukkannappa dhevar thirumaram)
